An Everett man was ordered jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail Wednesday after a man he allegedly injured during a street fight died.
Erik E. Shreffner, 29, already was behind bars, jailed for investigation of first-degree assault. He is now under investigation for second-degree murder, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Dave Hiltner said.
Shreffner was arrested after an Aug. 25 fight in downtown Everett last week that left Russell Walden, 42, hospitalized in critical condition.
Walden died Tuesday, Hiltner told Everett District Court Judge Roger Fisher during a brief court appearance on Wednesday. The prosecutor asked that Shreffner's bail be set at $500,000.
An attorney for Shreffner raised no challenge.
The cause of Walden's death remained under investigation by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office on Wednesday.
Everett police also continue to investigate the case. Sgt. Boyd Bryant urged anyone with information to call the police department's tip line at 425-257-8450.
